Ceramic painting at Handmade is available for women's and men's groups, families, kids - all enjoy putting their own touches on the piece of their choice. Ceramics begins by choosing a bisqued (fired once) clay ceramic piece, such as a bowl, plate or animal to hand paint with a variety of colorful glazes. Once painted and dry they are coated with a clear glaze before being placed in a kiln for a second firing. Depending on the piece and the intricacy of painting desired, your piece may take more or less time. There is no limit on painting time, 1 hour or 1 day, or more. It's as you please. The kiln bakes the ceramic pieces over night at tempertures to approximately 2000 degrees F. and the kiln takes up to 24 hours to cool down. Pieces may be picked up generally within a week or two depending on the day they are fired. An experienced ceramicist will help you with creative and technical needs for your project. Handmade will stay open after hours for special occasions by prior appointment. Many groups have found these soirees festive and fun.
